Tallynn
Every download, tallied.
Your GitHub release downloads, live in the macOS menu bar. A notification and a sound the moment any of them changes.
Sample numbers, sped up: here a refresh finds new downloads every few seconds; Tallynn refreshes every 10 minutes. Open the menu in the bar above and point at a repository.
Per repository, per version.
Every ticked repository is a row in the menu, with its count on the right. Open one and its releases follow, newest first, with the downloads of each. The menu bar shows the total; a TOTAL row in the menu is one click away under Total.

How it gets the numbers.
Every 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes, and when you choose Refresh, Tallynn asks GitHub. Four steps, the same every time.
- Asks the GitHub CLI for its login.
gh auth token, on every refresh, so signing in, out or switching accounts in Terminal is followed straight away. - Lists your repositories. Your own, forks left out. New ones stay hidden until you tick them.
- Reads each ticked repository’s releases, page by page.
- Adds up the installer downloads and compares them with the last refresh. A refresh that fails keeps the last counts, so a repository that couldn’t be read never looks like a drop.
Every refresh asks again. Nothing is cached on disk; the token stays in memory and is never stored, logged or shown.
Install.
Open the DMG (download it) and drag Tallynn to Applications.
Allow it once. Tallynn is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS asks only the first time you open it.
Sign in with GitHub. Settings opens on General. Click Sign in with GitHub: github.com opens with a one-time code,
ABCD-1234, already on your clipboard. Paste it and approve. If the GitHub CLI is already signed in, Tallynn uses that login straight away.Tick the repositories to count. The total appears in the menu bar, and each repository in the menu.
You need macOS 26 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel · the GitHub CLI, brew install gh · Tallynn in Applications, for launch at login and updates.
Reading the menu.
The lines Tallynn shows, and what each one means.
- Install the GitHub CLI…
- Tallynn signs in through the GitHub CLI, and it isn’t installed. Install it with
brew install gh, then click the message and Try Again. - Sign in to GitHub…
- The GitHub CLI isn’t signed in, or you signed out. Click the message, then Sign in with GitHub: github.com opens with a one-time code already on your clipboard.
- Choose Repositories…
- You’re signed in, but no repository is ticked yet. Click it and tick the ones to count. New repositories stay hidden until you tick them.
- Counting downloads…
- The first refresh is still running. It sets a quiet baseline, so downloads from before you signed in never ring.
- Couldn’t refresh
- The last refresh couldn’t read GitHub. The counts stay as they were, so a repository that couldn’t be read never looks like a drop. It tries again at the next refresh, or use Refresh (⌘R).
- Launch at Login
- It only works for the copy in
/Applications, so the item stays greyed out anywhere else. Move Tallynn there and open it again. - Update available!Install version 0.4.0 now
- A check found a newer version. Click it to install: it only installs if the new app is signed by the same developer, and only into the copy in Applications. Then Reopen starts it.

Tally, and Tallinn. The icon is Viru Gate, the two towers that open Tallinn’s Old Town. Between them, five merlons: one group of five.
